-- CHAPTER 3 ---
Tap. Tap. Tap.
Jin gazed around absentmindedly as he tapped his pen on the edge of the table. He ignored the irritated glares of the few people sitting around him and continued to tap his pen in what he knew was probably becoming the most annoying sound to said glaring people.
He did not care if they were annoyed.
“Akanishi. Stop. That.”
Jin blinked, looked to his right and stopped his tapping.
He, however, did care if Ryo was annoyed.
Ryo was scary and possibly violent if he got mad.
“Fine” Jin pouted, crossing his arms.
“Why don’t you just you know, pay attention?” Ryo asked archly, gesturing to the professor at the front of the lecture hall.
“I don’t wanna – hey Ryo~” Jin grinned, “Wanna skip class?”
“No”
Jin frowned at the immediate and negative response.
“But –”
“No. Chances are you’ll drag me off to do something idiotic again”
“We could go pull Pi out of class” Jin suggested brightly and in what he thought was an enticing way. Well, he at least thought the idea would have been enticing for Ryo – he was sure that Ryo’s refusal to do anything fun – or in the sane person’s mind, idiotic – right now was the result of Yamapi withdrawal.
Ryo did not answer him.
Instead, the shorter man put his hand on the back of Jin’s head and pushed Jin’s head so his face was squashed into the table, “Either leave by yourself, or sleep and don’t bother me”
“I’ll sleep” Jin conceded, his voice muffled by the table.
“Good” Ryo said calmly.
Around the two, the other students looked away instantly at the sight of Ryo’s scarily satisfied smile.
* * *
Jin opened his eyes, uncomfortably aware of two things.
One was that his cheek was pressed against the table and that side of his face had turned numb at some point while he had been sleeping.
Another was that he still vividly remembered his dream.
Lonely eyes…
Wings made of city lights behind him…
Such lonely eyes…
“Why the hell was I dreaming about that girly boy?” Jin muttered under his breath, his cheek still lying on the desk.
He sat up and turned around, rubbing his cheek which had no doubt turned red by now. Ryo sat there, smirking at him with a knowing expression that Jin had a bad feeling about.
“Is class over yet?” Jin asked with a yawn.
“Almost…but one question. Who’s Kazuya?” Ryo asked with a vindictive smirk.
“Huh? Why?”
“You were muttering the name in your sleep” he answered.
“Was not” Jin pouted, “And it’s not what you think”
Ryo merely raised an eyebrow, the same smirk fixed on his face.
“It’s not!” Jin protested as the rest of the class picked up their books and left the lecture hall, “Ryo!”
As they stepped out of the building, a sudden blur suddenly flew toward them from Jin’s right. He blinked a few times, watching as Yamapi attached himself to Ryo’s back, “Ryo~!”
Jin raised an eyebrow in the same manner Ryo had only moments before, which did not go unnoticed by the shorter man. Glowering at Jin, Ryo managed to get Yamapi off his back before smirking at Jin, “Shut up Akanishi or I’ll tell Pi here –”
“Tell me what?”
“– that you mutter a certain someone’s name in your sleep”
“Shut up Ryo” Jin muttered, kicking at the ground.
“Who? Who?” Yamapi asked excitedly, an anticipating grin on his face as the prospect of teasing Jin more.
Ryo shrugged, “Some guy named Kazuya – maybe he’s talking about that girly boy”
“Kazu-chan?!” Yamapi asked in a mixture of surprise and delight.
Ignoring Ryo’s sudden suspicious look and demands of ‘Why do you have to call girly boy, Kazu-chan?’, Yamapi grinned mischievously, “Jin likes Kazu-chan~” he sang teasingly, “Jin and Kazu-chan sitting in a tree – ow!”
Yamapi pouted at Jin who had hit him on the head.
Then, he brightened.
“Let’s go visit Kazu-chan!” Yamapi declared, grabbing both Jin’s and Ryo’s sleeves and dragging them off campus.
* * *
The bell above the door chimed lightly, signalling the arrival of more customers.
Kazuya turned toward the entrance of the restaurant tiredly, hoping that it was some nice, quiet elderly couple this time instead a family of loud, obnoxious children like the last time the door had opened. He was still exhausted from running back and forth delivering their food and cleaning up after their children’s mini food fight.
“Welcome. How may I – ”
Before Kazuya could continue, he was assaulted by a large blur and almost knocked to the ground. Fortunately – or unfortunately in this case – Kazuya quickly realized what the blur off and began to try to pry Yamapi off him.
“Get off Pi!” he protested, attempting to push the hyperactive man off.
“Anything for Kazu-chan” Yamapi chirped cheerfully.
Kazuya shot him an irritated look, “What’d I say about calling me that?”
“It suits you”
“Whatever. What are you doing here?”
“We came to visit you” Yamapi explained, “Because Jin –”
Jin chuckled weakly as he kept his hand clamped over Yamapi’s mouth.
Kazuya gave the two a strange look before turning to Ryo, opening his mouth to ask something.
Ryo cut him off however, “Don’t bother – it’s not worth losing your sanity over” he stated sardonically, “So, busy day, girly boy?”
Kazuya glared, “What’d I tell you about calling me that?”
“It suits you”
Kazuya threw up his hands in frustration before turning to Yamapi curiously, “Pi, aren’t you filling in for Junno at work today?”
A look of panic flitted across Yamapi’s face, “Oh shit – I forgot. Junno’s gonna kill me – wait, no, that’s not right – Ueda’s gonna kill me if I get his precious boyfriend fired!”
With that, Yamapi grabbed Ryo’s hand and practically flew out the door, “JinwalkKazu-chanhomeanddon’tlethimgetmu
Jin and Kazuya stood gaping at the closed door, each trying to figure out just what Yamapi had just said.
“I’m pretty sure he said something about walking you home” Jin finally said.
“Makes more sense than what I heard,” Kazuya agreed, “I heard something about mugging me…and something about you being killed if you don’t”
“Well, I don’t feel like being killed, so I’ll walk you home” Jin smiled sitting down at one of the tables, “When do you get off work?”
Kazuya glanced at the clock, “In about half an hour – and I can walk home by myself perfectly fine you know”
“Pi doesn’t seem to think so” Jin raised an eyebrow.
Kazuya ducked his head and muttered under his breath, causing Jin to laugh at his sullen expression.
“What? I didn’t catch that” he asked with a wide grin and a strange feeling in his chest, which he promptly ignored.
When he did not get a clearer answer from the younger man, Jin asked something that had been on his mind since meeting Kazuya for the first time, “So…you know that rooftop? If you weren’t there to – you know…kill yourself, what were you doing there?”
By now, seeing as no customers were coming in, Kazuya had taken a seat next to Jin and tilted his head at the sudden and seemingly random question. He shrugged as an answer, “Well, it just seems the closest I’ll ever get to the sky – so it’s been a habit that I go there; it’s…always so close…but never close enough…”
Kazuya said the last part in a small whisper.
Jin froze as he stared at the longing, faraway look in Kazuya’s eyes, a pounding starting in his chest as he saw the lonely eyes that had been on his mind more often than not these days.
Hell, it was all he saw when he closed his eyes.
As realization of what that pounding was, it felt as though his body was suddenly guided by something other than his mind. He leaned forward and wrapped his arms around the smaller man’s body in what could only be described as an embrace.
Kazuya stiffened in surprise, wrapped in the older man’s arms, and wondered just why his heart was beating so fast.

For those who couldn't read Yamapi's really fast talking:
"Jin walk Kazu-chan home and don't let him get mugged or anything or I'll set an angry Ryo on you next time he's really really angry or maybe I'll let ueda know who let Kazu-chan get mugged and then watch as he kills you. Oh but wait Junno would stop ueda from doing anything illegal and dangerous so I'll just set an angry Ryo on you instead"
